JOINING HEARTS AND HANDS FOR ALEXA
Alexa Jennings, daughter of Brooks and Becky Jennings and a member of our Christ Lutheran Church family, is battling Opsoclonus-Myoclonus Syndrome (OMS). OMS is a rare (1 in 10,000,000) autoimmune neurological disorder. Its name describes its symptoms: opsoclonus is jiggling eye movements (nystagmus) and myoclonus means involuntary muscle twitching. Although they have health insurance, the treatments and medications are very expensive making even their deductibles to be out of reach of most people. On Sunday, March 7, 2010, members and friends of Christ Lutheran Church joined hearts and hands with a brat and hotdog fundraiser to acquire a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans (TFL) matching grant. $6,000 had to be raised to reach the 2-for-1 match of the $3,000 TFL grant. The fund-raiser was so successful that $13,200 was raised - coupled with the $3,000 grant, a total of $16,200 was provided to the Jennings family to support Alexa's on-going treatment.
